Dubai is taking another big step toward greener transportation. Parkin, the city’s largest paid parking operator, has partnered with charge&go, a subsidiary of e&, to set up 200 ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the emirate.
This 10-year project is designed to meet the growing demand for EV charging and support Dubai’s long-term plans for clean energy and sustainability.
When and where will the chargers be available?
The rollout begins in October 2025, when the first 20 chargers will be installed at busy locations. Within a year, the network will grow to 200 charging points in residential communities, shopping centers, leisure destinations, and other high-traffic spots.
What makes these chargers special?
The new charging units will be Direct Current (DC) ultra-fast chargers, capable of fully charging an electric car in less than 30 minutes.
This is much quicker than conventional Alternating Current (AC) chargers, which often take several hours. Faster charging will make EV ownership easier and more practical for daily use.
The system also introduces a “park and charge” model — vehicles can occupy charging bays only while they’re actively charging. This will reduce misuse of charging spots and ensure more availability.
How will drivers use them?
The chargers will connect to Parkin’s mobile app, which will allow users to:
- Reserve charging slots in advance
- Track charging progress in real time
- Make secure digital payments quickly and easily
This will make the process smooth, efficient, and convenient for all EV drivers.
What is Dubai’s current EV charging capacity?
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reports that the emirate already has over 1,270 EV charging points serving more than 40,600 electric vehicles.
DEWA launched the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014 and continues to expand the charging network in partnership with both public and private sectors.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized that this expansion supports the UAE’s national target of making 50% of all cars electric or hybrid by 2050. DEWA has also created clear rules to maintain charging standards and encourage more private investment in EV infrastructure.
How does this project fit into Dubai’s sustainability plans?
The rollout of these ultra-fast chargers supports several key initiatives:
- Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan
- Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050
- Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050
All of these programs aim to make Dubai a global leader in sustainable and eco-friendly development.
By providing faster and more reliable charging, Dubai is making it easier for people to choose electric vehicles. This means cleaner air, less traffic pollution, and stronger support for the city’s green mobility goals.
