Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an ambitious project to upgrade traffic infrastructure at 40 critical locations across the city, with the implementation scheduled between June and September 2025. The comprehensive initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and support the city’s growing urban and economic landscape.
The improvement works will span across 22 major roads, 9 school zones, more than 5 development areas, and various internal road networks in prominent districts such as the Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, and Nad Al Sheba. The upgrades are strategically planned to be carried out during the summer holiday period, a time when traffic volumes are generally lower, to minimise disruptions for road users and ensure smooth implementation with high safety standards.
One of the primary goals of this project is to streamline traffic movement and enhance connectivity between residential communities, educational institutions, and fast-developing zones. The enhancements will also ensure that Dubai’s road infrastructure keeps pace with the emirate’s rapid urban expansion and evolving mobility needs.
In the next phase of this initiative, key traffic improvements will be introduced in areas such as Jumeirah Village Circle towards Hessa Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Thanya Street, and King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street. Further upgrades are planned for Al Meydan Street, Al Sa’ada Street, Al Asayel Street, and the busy junction of Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street.
A major focus of the initiative is road safety and efficiency in school zones. RTA will carry out targeted enhancements at nine school locations, including the Al Warqa 1 school complex and GEMS School in Al Warqa 3. These works involve constructing an additional bus entrance, widening access and exit roads, and installing signal-controlled pedestrian crossings to improve student and pedestrian safety, particularly during peak morning and afternoon hours.
Addressing the mobility demands of new residential and industrial areas, RTA will also implement traffic solutions in five major development zones. This includes constructing a dedicated access road to Al Muhaisnah labour camps from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and upgrading Al Mustaqbal Street (Brookfield) to serve new residential communities. Moreover, improved connectivity between Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street via Al Marabea’ Street, as well as enhancements at Nad Al Hamar junction near Lootah Mosque, will provide seamless access and reduce congestion in these growing neighborhoods.
To further support Dubai’s educational infrastructure, RTA is developing new parking facilities for the Zayed Educational Complex in Oud Al Muteena 1. Additionally, internal roads in areas such as Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Nad Al Sheba, and Al Warqa will undergo significant enhancements. In a bid to promote walkability and pedestrian safety, pedestrian walkways will also be constructed in the Al Quoz Creative Zone.
These comprehensive upgrades reinforce RTA’s commitment to building a smarter, safer, and more efficient road network that meets the needs of residents, visitors, and businesses in Dubai.
